3 Fall ’13 NYFW looks I want in my closet now

New York Fashion Week wrapped up at the end of last week. I’ve done the circus that is Fashion Week in the past, but this year I was happy to simply refresh Style.com from the comfort of my living room. The thing that always strikes me a bit funny about Fall Fashion Week is that it’s held in February (aka the worst month of the year) when New York is still frigid, therefore making me want to pluck everything right off the runway and wear it immediately. Here are my top three picks for looks I wish were in my closet today.

Joie — I think a lot of people (myself included) were really happy to see that Joie presented a collection during Fashion Week this year. I’ve purchased two pieces for spring from the brand over the past few months, and I was just as pleased with their Fall ’13 offerings! I’m seriously considering starting to save for this amazing quilted leather jacket now.

The Row — Say what you will about the Olsen twins, but they are seriously on to something with their line, The Row. Their fall collection is all about playing with textures and fabrics, like this smooth silky waistband paired with a textured jacquard skirt and a fuzzy sweater. I mostly want this look in my closet today because it’s freezing here, and I’d like to curl up in that sweater!

3.1 Phillip Lim Phillip Lim’s fall collection seemed like one for the cool girls. Each look that I saw seemed to exude that sort of street style attitude that everyone loves but that is so hard to get right! I fell particularly hard for this look because it reminds me of something I’d wear to the office, but somehow (again) 100 times cooler.

Midnight Snack: Spot Dessert Bar

On Friday night, New York City was overtaken by fashionistas for Fashion’s Night Out, an annual event created by Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour. My friends and I roamed the streets of SoHo, ducking into boutiques to (window) shop and have a glass of wine to celebrate New York Fashion Week. We had fun people-watching and spotting celebs (Kanye West, Jimmy Fallon, AND Anna Wintour!), but it was crowded and we were hungry after a few hours! Luckily, Spot Dessert Bar isn’t too far away.

Spot opened last winter in a below street level location on St. Mark’s that used to be one of those shops that sold dragon and fairy figurines and incense. I find Spot to be a much better tenant! They are open until 1am on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, so you can grab something sweet if you are out late! The desserts are really innovative and fuse classic plates with Asian flavors. Some of the “dessert tapas” incorporate unsuspected ingredients like yuzu or miso, and there is an avocado parfait on the menu that I’m dying to try!

I went for a make your own sundae dessert: a scoop of sweetened condensed milk ice cream (words cannot describe how much I love this flavor), a scoop of chocolate ginger sorbet, caramel sauce and chocolate pearls. Et voila! Pretty ice cream masterpiece!

Something else that I really love about Spot is that their ingredients are fresh and natural, and they are very eco-conscious with their serving utensils and their decor. My only complaint is that it’s a little expensive (my ice cream was almost $8), but once in a while you have to splurge on something tasty, right? Check out their website here for the menu and location information!

Dreaming of Fall

It seems like it’s been ages since I was shuffling around the tents at Bryant Park to see the Fall/Winter 2010 collections at Fashion Week. Since that season shows during February, it was pretty tempting to start stocking up on cold-weather clothing right away — especially given that the weather that week was particularly foul and freezing. I’m starting to feel the urge again to fill my closet with knits and tights and all things cozy, but more out of a desire for the now sweltering New York City weather to get lost! Here are a few things on my radar.

Some fantastically adorable capes from Topshop. I don’t think they’ll be released until August, but I really want the camel-colored one on the top!

This Buren bootie from Nine West. I haven’t tried the stockings with open-toe shoes look yet, but I might try with this one for the fall.

Dresses in Fall fabrics — Tweed! Jacquard! Wool! This Vivi Combo dress by Milly would be right at home in my closet.
